Today is the birthday of one of the most outstanding teacher to grace Vaganova Ballet Academy - Professor Ludmila Kovaleva.
Her pupils included Diana Vishneva, Sofia Gumerova, Olga Esina, Ekaterina Bortchenko, Kristina Shapran and Olga Smirnova.
This evening’s performance of George Balanchine’s Jewels at the new Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinsky II) feature a debut of Kristina Shapran, who will appear in the lead role in Diamonds for the first time (alongside Timur Askerov).
